The Roads and Traffic Authority in New South Wales presented Fuji Xerox Global Services with the challenge of finding a cost-effective way to solve the problems it was encountering with the fleet of dated office equipment scattered amongst its multiple offices. Fuji Xerox Global Services has met this challenge by providing the RTA with multi-function devices that are serviced under one contract, utilising a pay per copy policy. The results of this plan have been phenomenal. Over the course of five-years the RTA has saved roughly $4 million, lowered its energy use by 25% and reduced its carbon emissions by 13 tonnes. With improvements in workflow available through the use of these machines, the RTA also intends to reduce paper consumption.
The RTA of New South Wales provides road network management, vehicle registration, driving licenses and most importantly is charged with keeping the New South Wales road network safe. Because of this, the challenge presented by the RTA was of paramount importance.
The first portion of the challenge was the replacement of over 2,100 machines that were under different service contracts and provided by multiple manufacturers. Additionally, the solution needed to provide the 6,900 employees of the RTA relief from the frustration of poor technical support and confusing service agreements. The final component of the solution needed to provide machines that were environmentally friendly and a service contract that covered quality service and associated maintenance costs and support, due to the fact that government agencies are not allowed to have capital expenditures or purchase to own items on their service contracts.
Fuji Xerox Global Services met these challenges by providing much needed equipment upgrades and machines that are serviced and supported under one contract; all of which is covered by a pay per impression rate. The first component of the solution was simple: The RTA needed an equipment upgrade. This upgrade consists of a fleet of multi-function devices that handle the day-to-day facsimiles, copies and printouts. The newer machines also operate with greater energy efficiency, thus providing a lower impact on the environment. Finally, with the price per copy contract in place, the RTA sees a substantial cost savings of some four million dollars over a 60-month period.
With the solutions provided by Fuji Xerox Global Services, the RTA is able to save money, help the environment and concentrate on its number one priority; the drivers of New South Wales.
According to Road and Traffic Authority, there will be only one supplier of office machines, i.e. printers, facsimile machines and photocopiers: www.fujixerox.com.au A study has been made to show the advantage of their strategy http://www.fujixerox.com.au/docs/case_studies/RTA_Case_Study.pdf
