Have you heard of “search engine optimization,” also known as SEO? There are lots of different techniques to search engine optimization out there, all of which have the same goal, meaning that you, a business owner, want to make your website more visible to people by having them ranked on search engines such that they are more visible and people will find you.
Google is the search engine which people tend to be the most concerned about, given its dominant position in the search engine market. However, the other major search engines Bing and Yahoo are also important and there are a number of smaller search engines which also influence traffic to your site. The higher your website ranks in the search engines, the better the chance you have of seeing more visitors.
SEO Networker Mastermind: Expert Opinions
Some network marketing and SEO experts, Ferny Ceballos and Raymond Fong from SeoNetworker Mastermind, have spent a long time talking about this concept to others and training them about it. Specifically, they say that there are three page design elements that are very important in that will add to search engine optimization. These are not the only things you should consider when you build or change your existing website, but they are among the most important. They are:
1. Meta Tags
Meta tags are very important when it comes to search engine optimization, because these are what search engine crawlers read as they index your site. If you don’t have these, your site will basically be invisible to search engines because your site won’t be indexed by the crawlers. There are several specific tags within the “meta tag” designation, including:
Meta Title: this is the only tag which is required by search engines and is essential for having your site indexed. The resource type listed in the code for this tag will read “document”, which should be left as is: this is the only type currently used.
Meta description: Most search engines still use these tags, but not all. Make the description brief, just one or two sentences. This description will come up on search engine listings alongside your name.
Meta Keyword: This area can contain up to 12 keywords. Choose keywords which are relevant to your site’s content and list them here, separated by commas.
2. Navigational Links
These should occur on the right side of your page or at the bottom. That’s because when search engines index your page, they read the text on your pages from top right to bottom left, just as you would if you read a book or a webpage yourself. The first 100 words on the page should be your most important, because that’s what the search engines will consider the most important. Don’t make them code like JavaScript, or navigational links. By putting your links on the right side or on the bottom, it’s more likely that your first hundred words will really be relevant to your site and therefore will produce listings that will let people know what you’re about. (And of course, make these hundred words count, now that you know this. They should be search engine optimized and contain your most important keywords.)
3. Content
Content is the textual information and other content people want to see on your site. If you provide a lot of content and you do regular updates, people are going to be able to see you much easier because your site will be indexed much more regularly; search engine crawlers reindex your site when it’s updated, so that will make it more visible.
Make sure the content you use is original, not duplicate (not other content already present on your site, and not content from other sites of your own). In fact, duplicate content can actually lower or get you kicked out of search engine rankings altogether, because search engines look for this type of artificial “popularity”-boosting method and will penalize you for it.
