You can take the art of candle making from being a fun filled weekend hobby to a million dollar home business, it all depends on you and your interests. Most all candle making projects will require a few common supplies. You will need wax of course wicks, and a candleholder. Beings that we can make our candles in any size or shapes, the size will determine the amount of wax we will require. Most people make candles out of either beeswax or paraffin.

Double boilers are most commonly used to melt the wax for our candle projects, but I have also seen special electric pitchers for this. For some types of candles, molds are used. There are a wide variety of candle molds that can be found at local craft shops or online. Candle molds are usually made from aluminum or made of metal. To keep your wicks centered within your candles consider purchasing a wick holder bar. To facilitate your wax coming out of your molds it is recommended to get a silicone spray to coat your molds with before pouring your wax.

Another couple of things that you can add to your candles are colors or scents. Peoples homes are decorated in many varieties of colors, so it makes sense to make candles of all different colors. Typical candle colors are in the form of dyes.

Another thing you can add to your candle projects are fragrances. It’s up to you to leave the candle plain with no smell, or to buy the scent you like. the most common candle fragrances are potpourri, cinnamon and vanilla. Many Aromatherapy scents will also help in a healing sort of way if there are any medical problems. Other fruit smells will evoke hunger. Try not to make your candles overpowering in smell, subtle works so much better. Just add one ounce of fragrance to one pond of wax.

The amount of supplies you will need depends on the size and shapes of your candles. In reality you can get all of the supplies that you will need to make many many candles for under $100. search at your local craft store for beginner candle making kits, this is a great way to get started.

Making candles is a fun hobby and your talent will come through in your creations. Many gadgets and tools are on the market to make your candle making easier. Just remember that 3 basic things are needed, wax wicks and candle holders.

No two people will make their candles the same way, but by experimenting you will find the way that works best for you. Candle making is a learning process with a small learning curve. The most important thing is to have fun making some great gifts and decorations.
