Although traveling on an aircraft may appear something routine to you but you cannot deny the need to maintain airline safety. Especially when you are boarding floatplanes, the need to ensure safety develops even more. You should choose a pilot who has an appreciable flying record and floatplane rating in order to be secure. His float rating included his certificate will let you know about how good he is at flying. However, if you are just boarding a usual flying plane, you still have to maintain safety. You should know what to do if by any means something goes wrong with the aircraft or it faces a crash. Following are some general tips which may assist you in assuring your safety on the aircraft;
You should prioritize direct flights over flights with connections. This is because most of the crashes take place while take off, landing, climb or descent. Keeping least of all of this will lessen the chances of an aircraft crash.
It is better that you select a larger plane to travel. The planes that were modeled for more than 30 passengers went through strict regulations. Such planes would be safer enough for you. Also, there is an added likelihood of survival on a larger aircraft after it goes through a crash. A small aircraft may be torn into pieces as a whole, while a larger aircraft wouldn’t.
Listen to the flight briefing. Even though this seems as a primary lesson, many people may not listen to what the operator has to say. You should be aware of the emergency exit (which may not be at the same position for all planes), and what other safety measures you should take if somehow you encounter some accident.
You must not take heavy baggage for the overhead storage bin. This will minimize the chances of tumbling of heavy articles during an aircraft crash.
Keep the seatbelts fastened whenever you are seated. Even though this might be something you are aware of since your childhood, but keeping the seatbelts fastened will save you from any unexpected jerks of the aircraft.
You should not take in a lot of drinks. Also make sure that you do not drink too much alcohol while you are on board. The effects of alcohol may highly elevated when you are above sea level.
Do not pour hot drinks yourself. Hosts are usually skilled at this even when the aisle is packed and when the aircraft is in motion. You cannot take any risks with hot drinks, so let the attendant do it for you.
As for the airports, choose the ones that are smaller. This way you can make it to the airport on time and would be able to skip all the congestion in city centers.
If in your control, seat yourself close to the emergency exit. If you cannot, get to know the way to emergency exit so that you don’t panic at the time of any emergency.
Lastly, stay calm. Do not panic and release all the stress before you board the aircraft. Keep yourself relaxed and have a safe journey!
Connor R. Sullivan recently decided to get his floatplane rating in order for him to fly a seaplane. His son will also get his float rating which is required to fly a seaplane. You are welcome to reprint this article – but get your own unique content version here.
