In this day and age many companies are starting to release eco friendly versions of their products in hopes of promoting environmental health. These products are either labeled organic (food and produce) or green (clothes, electronics, furniture, etc). They are made of recycled materials. Surprisingly there are green cell phones on the market available. There are only a few green phones though but they will surely enough become more popular. The latest green phone is the Reclaim SPH-M560 from Samsung. Purchasing this phone has many benefits. On top of being made of out recycled parts it is also very affordable and has many great features. Anyone looking for a new eco friendly multimedia phone should look no further.
Most notably the Reclaim’s casing is made out of recycled plastic. This detail is surprising because the phone doesn’t feel weak or vulnerable. The eco friendly motif even extends to the packaging as well. The box the phone comes in is made out of recycled paper and the owners manual is printed in a soy based ink. The Reclaim has a rectangular design. It has a nice design and it fits comfortably in ones pocket and when held in hand. Luckily the phones controls aren’t affected by the small size. The face buttons are located neatly underneath the screen. The full QWERTY keyboard is inside the slide compartment. The keys are not raised or separated but they are wide enough to allow easy typing and maneuvering.
As with most multimedia phones the Samsung Reclaim offers many applications. One can access social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook. A user can also access media streaming sites like YouTube and watch videos or listen to music off the web. Going along with the eco friendly theme the phone also has a Green Glossary and Green Guide app which helps people determine what items are healthy and eco friendly. There is also email syncing which allows you to view your email on Yahoo, Hotmail, and Gmail. Being a Sprint and EV-DO phone the Reclaim gives its users access to Sprint Radio, Sprint TV, and Sprint Movie.
The Reclaim is also a camera phone. The camera is 2 megapixels. It takes pictures in varying degrees of quality and resolution. It has 3 quality settings, 5 resolutions, a self timer, digital zoom, 5 white balance settings, and 4 shutter noises. The Reclaim can also record video, the video can be uploaded directly to YouTube and Facebook.
The call quality was good. Callers sounded fine but at higher volume levels they did sound a bit distorted. Similarly the speakerphone experiences the same problem. There was no static or interference of any kind during phone calls. Also if the user isn’t speaking directly into the phone the person on the other end will have trouble understanding what the user is saying.
The Samsung Reclaim is a very nice phone. It features many applications and tools that are very popular among people today. Not only that, it is an environmentally friendly phone since it is made out of recycled materials. Anyone trying to promote a green world in this day and age can do no worse than this phone.
