It can make it seem a lot more complicated than it actually is. You dont have to use the correct terminology until everything is understood; it may help the student grasp the subject much quicker.

My suggestion would be that the online tutor simply explains the subject or problem as clearly as they can until the student understands the problem and can see the solution. When the student in confident in the subject then introduce the terminology. When the student better understands the subject they are more likely to be motivated to do well in it.

If you are working with a student that has failed a certain subject previously then the chances are likely that they are going to be pretty de-motivated.
