Greetings,
My name is Kyle Artzt, also known as HB of Beats4Legends and I am writing this article in order to help you Sell Hip Hop Beats online. I have to say, selling beats has been the easiest business for me to run thus far. I haven’t had much trouble with it at all, so don’t doubt the possibilities.
The best websites to promote your beats would definitely be Soundclick and MySpace. Both of them are full of rappers, meaning full of potential clients who may purchase from you in the future.
Making really dope beats is the first step to selling beats online, promoting is actually less important for the time being. It sounds like some obvious stuff, but this is why many producers fail before they even start. Don’t promote yourself until you know, beyond a reasonable doubt, that your beats will sell.
The truth of the matter is, though you don’t have to be the best producer (by any means), it’s extremely important to at least have “sellable” beats. Most people never understand this concept and so they’ve destined themselves to failure before they even start.
The best types of beats to sell include hardcore, R&B, sampled and club beats. In my experience, those types of instrumentals simply sell a lot faster than any other kind. Being too original is a bad move, and sounding too generic is terrible as well. It’s funny because it’s hard to tell when you’re ready.. The best way to know is to ask extremely talented rappers who’s sound is very high quality. If the guy’s who are making the most professional sounding music like your beats, then you may be ready. If not, you may need some work.
Promotion is step two, but having tight beats is step one. When you’re ready to promote, go ahead and sign up for the classic beat sites like Soundclick, RocBattle, MyBeatShop and MySpace. The problem with RocBattle and MyBeatShop, though, is that they’re websites built for producers. If you get high in their charts you can make money, but there’s no sign up option for rappers, so all the members are your competition, not your target audience.
