Do you currently have a successful mentor helping you? I sure hope so. Having a mentor is critical to you getting and keeping a six figure income. Why is a mentor so important? The main reasons I like to focus on are keeping your head in a good place and being help accountable. If you start a home based business without a mentor you will most likely going into information overload and quickly burn out. Without an accountability partner to keep you focused and on task, you will want to quit when the going gets tough. The follow items should make it very clear why you need a strong, successful mentor.

1. You Don’t Know Enough– No matter how much you know about running a business and making money from home, you will still need to learn more. You are in an environment where continuous learning and improvement are very important to long term success. If you are trying to learn everything from ebooks and webinars, you are slowing your development dramatically. A mentor can “fill in the blanks” and answer your questions as you learn. It is a great way to make sure you are not heading down the wrong path.

2. Self Teaching Is Slow and Painful– If you do not know much about building a home based business, you are most likely not going to teach yourself very well. You need to become an active student and learn a lot of things about a home based business in a short period of time. Your mentor can accelerate your learning while they can help you get your first new members and start making some money.

3. You Have To Learn Fast To Make Money– If you are new to working from home, you have a lot of things to learn and master. If you are constantly in learning mode, it will often keep you away from earning mode. Your mentor can help you earn while you learn. This concept is very important to your short term cash flow.

4. You Are Bad Company With Yourself– If you are doing everything all by yourself, you will get lonely and even depressed. Having a mentor and possibly a mastermind group will help you get much needed socialization and reinforcement. This will also give you some great feedback on your ideas.

5. You Want To Know When You Make Mistakes– You are going to make mistakes when starting up your business. You will not be able to identify these mistakes early in the process because you (like everyone else) wants to believe your ideas and plans are good. You can not “self police” your mistakes very well. Your mentor can help you identify these mistakes before they kill your business and your bank account.

6. You Have To Recover From Your Mistakes–When your mistakes are identified, you need to take care of them and then work to prevent them from happening again. Since you naturally like your ideas and believe they will all work, you will often fall into the trap repeating your mistakes. Your mentor can help you see and act on these mistakes before you ingrain bad beliefs and behaviors.

7. You Need To Follow A Proven Winner– You will read a lot of things online that are just not true. Some of these things can actually kill your business dead very quickly. You need to be able to sort out what will really help you from all the junk that you will find online. Your mentor can be very helpful here. You want to follow a person that has succeeded, not a person that is trying to learn just like you are. This is why you have to take the time to find a successful mentor that is willing to take the time to teach you how to be successful as well.
