It’s simple to get started using internet faxes. Simple, just sign up for a trial with one of the top companies & start enjoying the life of untethered faxes. You might want to try it from your computer first but that’s not really recommended. One, you have to have a phone line and two, it always has to be on and ready to receive. Besides, there are so many services at the $10 mark that it just makes sense to have an online fax number.
If you are a one-person show, no problem. The various service companies have plans that start small and can grow to accommodate you and your needs.
My favorite part about my fax number being online is the travel opportunities it opens up. I receive my mail via EarthClassMail.com and they send me notifications by email just like my faxes. This allows me to go wherever I want in the world and I have confidence that my emails, snail mail and faxes are all being handled appropriately. Think about it, your fax paper is always loaded. No paper jams, no toner spills or error messages and above all you are saving a few of our trees.
Online faxes are delivered through your email. Some of the services like efax have software to install but the trend nowadays is to use the .tiff or .pdf format. These two file formats are like mathematics in that they are pretty much universal.
Adding a signature to a fax is really pretty simple. I use a little piece of software called SnagIt by Techsmith. First you have your signature scanned in to your computer. I know, work, but I’ve been using the same signature for six years now. I think it took all of fifteen minutes to originally scan it and get it correct. Tip: Use a Sharpee and fill a full 8″1/2 by 11″ piece of paper then shrink it down. This will give you the rich lines of a professional signature. Once inside SnagIt you simply paste and drag your signature where you want it on the original document. After I have it the way I want it, I simply print to PDF using a free program called PrimoPDF. There you have it, a new original document with your signature in place.
