It seems that many people would like to learn how to make money at home. During touch economic times when people are losing their jobs, many turn to the internet searching for ideas to make an income from home. Just as there are many legitimate opportunities, you will also undoubtedly come across many that are not.
Here are some tips for evaluating what you find:
1. A red flag should go up if you are being pushed into deciding something rather suddenly. Be sure to listen to your gut.
2. Be cautious if you are asked to put a large sum of money upfront, and you are promised that you will get your money plus more back. These are almost always illegal.
3. Check to see if the company you may join in business is registered with the Better Business Bureau. Legitimate companies will be registered.
4. Beware of companies discussing a “ground-floor” opportunity. This may indicate that the first one that becomes with involved with the company makes most of the money. There ARE legitimate companies out there where it does not matter if you start your own business one year or ten years later than someone else. You can still make more money than others who started before you. That is the way it should be, as this means the company rewards those that are working for their efforts, and others can not make money for doing nothing.
5. Be careful of survey sites that want you to pay to give you access to paying surveys. I made the mistake of thinking that I would have all these great high-paying surveys at my fingertips. Instead, all it gave me was a list of companies that pay for people to fill out surveys. Then once you register with these companies, you have to wait for them to send you surveys and they usually end up being very low paying or the survey is closed, because they met their quota of people needed to do the survey! This is not to say that all survey sites are not legitimate; just do your research first.
6. Be cautious of businesses that expect you to purchase a large amount of inventory, that you then are expected to turn around and sell to others.
7. Be suspicious of guarantees that you will make lots of cash for doing almost nothing. If you are looking for a long-lasting, legitimate business, you are almost certainly not going to find it by doing no work.
8. Do not rely solely on the internet to do your research on the legitimacy or record of accomplishment of a company. I can guarantee you that not everything you find will be positive nor will it all be accurate. People like to post and clutter the internet with their beefs. If you let the negative opinions of others influence your decisions, you will probably never move further ahead. Be sure to look for the positive information too when doing your research.
9. If replying to an advertisement, you should always be able to learn what the company’s name is.
10. Be careful of offers that have time limits on them. This is a pressure tactic used to get you to decide now.
These are some very good tips to use when looking for ways to make money from home. Remember that there are a lot of good opportunities out there, but mixed in with them, you are bound to run into those that are either not legal or not very reputable.
