Beginning something from scratch is always a challenge and Internet marketing is no different. There is a huge amount of information to learn and for total newbies it can find it tough going in the first few months. Some people give up too early because either they are they are not properly trained or get caught up in the hype and quit because they do not see instant results.
HTML, SEO and PPC meant nothing to me when I first started and I did struggle a little at first. My computing skills were very basic and I had only sent my first email a few months before, but after a while I was a dab hand with my laptop.
One thing a lot of people do not realise is that you can get great results from free advertising. Of course you will have to purchase your business opportunity and there will be some running costs but actual advertising aspect can be done for very low cost. I say low cost but you will be paying with your time as these methods will take longer than say an Ezine or Google Adwords which is pretty much on autopilot. When you start to make money you can invest some profit into paid methods to free up some time for yourself.
Listed below are some of the methods I still use today even though I use paid methods as well. I use them because they work and it is as simple as that. Its always nice to get something for nothing, so here goes.
Blogging is free and if you did not know already, a blog is basically an online diary which people can write about any subject they like. In this case you would use this method to keep future customers or prospects bang up to date with the latest products and developments as far as your home business is concerned. Blogging is for entertainment and information, so when you write a post about your business do not write it as an advert, write it as information, so don’t write “buy this product!” for instance, because people may flag your site or complain. If however you have built your own blog and are not using one of the blogging companies you can post anything you like! Make sure you have a link on your main website to your blog page.
Free online classifieds are a great way to expose you website to the world. You can write adverts and post them within minutes and again most are completely free. Search in the search engines for free classifieds and you will find that there are plenty to choose from. The secret is to get a good headline to catch the readers attention then write something enticing to make the reader want to click on your link to your website. Most sites tell you how many clicks your advert has had, so keep the good and scrap the bad! Also some classified sites let you auto-renew your ads so it will save you some time. What are you waiting for? Get posting!
Join and start posting on some Internet marketing forums. You can learn from the people that post there, you can make friends and you can leave a discreet link to your website in the signature box at the bottom of each post that you make. First of all I would recommend that you introduce yourself to people on the site and then see if there are any topics that you could comment on or offer good advice. The more you read, the more you will learn so it is educational as well. Always read the rules of the site first and never advertise blatantly. This will get you some complaints and proberly banned!
Start to write some press releases about the products and services that you offer. These are written as a third person, informing people about any new developments or special offers that you may have. Search engines love them so you will get some nice free publicity.
Use local newspapers, flyers, business cards, shop windows or just about any other method you can think of to get people interested in your products. Be inventive and never give up!
