Cover Letter Format: How to write it appropriately
Before you get thrilled to apply for your first job, you might want to do some company research and review the job descriptions first. After doing research and you think that you’re all prepped up, it is now time for you to make a comprehensive resume and a good cover letter.
People applying for job openings would only submit resumes without including cover letters. If you are one of them, then you also probably don’t have an idea of its correct format. Failing to submit a cover letter will decrease your chances of getting hired because you did not provide enough information and lack marketing strategies for your self.
In order to market your self appropriately, writing a cover letter is essential. The letter itself is a marketing strategy for you because you are selling your self to the interviewers. Your letter should describe your self and why you’re fit for the position. Make sure that you write it in the correct format and you’ll surely find your way to your interview.
In writing a letter, it is advisable to begin with a draft first. Write everything that you think needs to be written there. Do not limit yourself to information. Just write your heart out; after all it is just a draft. When you’re finished with the draft, you will need to edit it to make it more professional and convincing.
Keep in mind that your letter should not be over a page long. Clean your draft by removing extraneous information such as detailed family history or educational background beginning with your elementary years. However, do include an educational background with your most recent studies, or degrees earned. This is plus factor for you. Make your letter concise and not lengthy.
Remove unnecessary entries in your draft. Be sure to leave the important details such as your traits, skills, and abilities. You can also include your educational background especially if it is related to the job you are applying for.
It is advisable to include a request for interview to show that you are determined to get the position. However, do it in a courteous way and show your professionalism. Revising your letter every now and then is also helpful because in case you missed out some errors, you will be able to correct it at once.
Be careful with your grammar. Remember to check your spelling and your punctuation as well. To be able to make a good impression, it is necessary that your letter looks professional and not like as if you are writing to a friend. A cover letter with the correct format will be of great importance especially if you are really determined to work for the company where you submitted your application.
