Ten Ways To Boost Your Time Management Skills
These 10 time management tips will put more time in your day.
1. Take Time to Plan
Just 15 minutes of daily planning can dramatically improve your productivity. The next time you’re tempted to rush right into doing something, pause to plan. You’ll also reduce stress and avoid crisis management.
2. Start With a Vision
Don’t begin a project without finding the end zone first. Setting goals will give you direction for where to focus your time.
3. Flexibility Rules
Life happens. Allow time for interruptions, distractions and opportunities.
4. Take 5 Minute Power Breaks
Taking 5-minute power breaks throughout the day will energize and invigorate you. Unplug, disconnect and get out of the office. You can daydream, look through a catalog, or read motivational quotes.
5. Are You A Perfectionist?
Yes, Im a recover perfectionist. While I do like my duck in a row before proceeding, I came to realize that the row doesn’t need to be perfectly straight.
6. Practice the Powerful Word NO
Planning and focusing on your goals gives you a realistic look at available time. This makes it easier for you to say NO to unimportant tasks.
7. Work within Your Peak Zones
Do you know the time of day where you perform at your best? Perhaps it’s the morning. Maybe you like the nights better. Do your higher priority task during your peak
8. Prioritize
Not all activities and task are equal. Use the 80/20 rule when prioritizing your task. Select the top 20 percent that will bring you the highest reward. Put those activities at the top of your list.
9. Overcome Procrastination
Overwhelm can cause procrastination. When you don’t know where to start, its easy to put off starting at all. Reduce overwhelm by breaking projects down into 15-minute tasks. (Remember Step 1, planning?) Complete those 15 minute tasks and the project will seem much easier.
10. Reward Yourself
Celebrate all your wins even the smallest. Promise yourself a reward for completing a task or project. Most importantly keep that promise.
