I got a call from friends a few days ago concerning another round of layoffs by AT&T. One person called me crying stating they did not understand how they were going to be able to make it. I was laid off by AT&T in January 2009 and even though I had no idea what I was going to do to bring income into the household I was happy about the situation. I told my friend to first of all take a deep breath and understand that it is not personal. It really is not. There just comes a time when corporations need to downsize and relieve themselves of older workers and that time is apparently now in this current economy. To be fair to the company when I was laid off there were older and younger workers affected by the move I’m just not sure if that is still the case.

The internet revolution may be the biggest thing since the oil well. The difference between that discovery and this one is if you were not wealthy you could not compete to secure your financial future. The top business owners of that day were men and women were generally at home caring for the family.
