It’s all too common to start off with internet marketing lacking any real plan. Even if you have an MBA and bring your own set of skills to the table, you’ll realize that online marketing has its own learning curve. When you start out with internet marketing, you find out pretty fast that it’s not like conducting business offline. Offline, when you want to contact someone you either pay them a visit or pick up the phone; on the net, you have to be more subtle and lure visitors to your squeeze page or get them to opt in to your email list. When it comes to internet marketing, your lifeblood is traffic; you can get free traffic or pay for it, but you can’t survive without it. It’s not enough to simply know about various forms of getting traffic, such as advertising with Google; if you want to actually generate traffic, you have to learn exactly how to use such tools. Online marketing does, in fact, borrow some of its strategies from more traditional types of marketing, but the way it’s used is very different from anything offline. This is the reason that people who get online and start internet marketing usually fail initially. It’s easy to look at the sheer number of people on the internet and get the idea that it should be simple to make millions of sales quickly. Just because there are lots of people online, however, doesn’t mean that they are just waiting to give you their money; you still have to put in the hard work of starting a real business.
